How to prepare

Ingredients

Khassoui Dates I 500g

Date Syrup I 200g

Ginger Powder I 1 teaspoon

Sesame Seeds to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Bring date syrup to boil. Remove the foam that come comes on top with a spoon and discard it.

Step 2

Place the seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat. Shake the pan and stir often until the seeds are golden brown (about 3 minutes). Raw sesame seeds can also be used but toasted sesame seeds make Moassal much tastier. Note that the more the sesame seeds the more delicious Moassal will be.

Step 3

Turn off the heat. Add ginger powder and sesame seeds to date syrup and stir well. The amount of ginger powder can be adjusted based on your taste but it is recommended for Moassal to be a bit spicy.

Step 4

Khassoui dates should be added to the mixture at this point. Stir well.

Your Date Moassal is ready in a very short time! You can keep it in a lock & lock container at room temperature.

Please note that Khassoui dates are more preferred for Moassal but you can also use Kabkob dates.

Soft and fleshy dates like Mazafati are not good for Moassal at all.

Please note that dates should be soaked in date syrup.

If you like spicy food, you can also add cardamom or cinnamon powder to the mixture along with ginger powder at stage 2 of this recipe.

If you don’t like very sweet food, you can eat Moassal with some tahini. The sweet taste of Moassal is extraordinary with the savory and nutty flavor of tahini.

Just keep in mind that even though Moassal is a healthy home-made snack but it is high in calorie. So please be careful with the amount you use! It is better to take it before doing sports.
